Rio Longa is aptly named ‘Fisherman’s Paradise’, with just cause.

All fish are caught on a release basis only, to preserve this outstanding fihsery.

The beach fishing – spinning can be awesome, and lead to spooled reels and broken rods, the Cubera Snapper and Giant African Threadfin lurk just inside casting range. While those venturing off shore – whether 1 mile or 5 miles can be treated to some of the best Tarpon or Sailfish in Africa. The backline trolling and spinning can reward anglers with world class Jack Crevally, it is just that good.

The lodge is ideally situated on an island in the river, just minutes from the beach, though boats need to travel down to the river mouth to exit into the open bay. The location is pure paradise, and the inhabitants of the river will greet you, as you idle through your morning coffee; if you don’t see at least 3 species of Kingfisher and a crocodile before you finish the coffee it is a poor day.

The lodge also has some superb fishing during winter months, though the warm water species have usually disappeared by then, so Kob are the usual targets – though usually over 20kg!!

Best season:

November through to April, depending when the cold water currents from the south start to affect the local waters. Trips are usually Sunday to Saturday, - 5 days fishing in paradise.

Rio Longa has a proud potential, as it is possibly the only place in the world where in 1 day you could catch a 200 kg+ Blue Marlin, then a 40 kg+ Sailfish, and to round off the day a 50 kg+ Tarpon; and that is not an ideal boast, one of our guides nearly did just that in 1 afternoon – all from a ‘ski boat’..

Rio Longa has a "unique" potential.
