ANGOLA DRIVE IN |
|
The Angolan ‘drive-in’ tour is probably one of the last big fishing adventures to be had in Africa. The ‘roads’ will test most vehicles and drivers, and then the splendid isolation of the northern section of the Namib Desert will humble the most ardent angler. These tours are from either 10 to 14 days long, and based around specific tidal periods. The fishing is generally in 2 locations, south of Tombua and at the Cunune River mouth, though fishing can be undertaken in Tigres Bay. The whole trip is all camping, and full individual self sufficiency is paramount. It is preferred that clients drive their own vehicles, though additional vehicles can be obtained with drivers for some trips. The fishing consists of traditional beach fishing and spinning, and dependant on water flows, can also incorporate light tackle spinning in the Cunune mouth. Target species are Kob, Garrick, Elf, Spotted Grunter, as well as sharks. The region is famous for its Bronzies, and recently Hammerheads have been caught in Tigres Bay. Best seasons is usually year round, though driving can be seriously difficult during the rainy season (January to March), which can lead to serious delays on the road, which will reduce time on the prolific beaches, or extend the trip. Not trip for the faint hearted.
